Literature Text

after a day
the ploughed field has
a fine crop of seagulls
It was full of them!

Wow, a DD! What a great thing to come home to after being away for the weekend. Cheers!

Many thanks to who explained in much clearer words than my inane babble about haiku spirit, why the 5-7-5 rule doesn't necessarily apply to English haiku.

"The haiku in English is an ambiguous form, but the syllable rule is redundant because it doesn't say anything about stresses, it's just an arbitrary almost-equivalent to the Japanese. Because the languages are so different, that element of haiku is pretty untranslatable. But the rough outline, style (single image and point) and subject matter (generally but not exclusively nature and seasons) are pretty straightforward."

I like this. The image is vivid and creatively constructed. Also fits in with my understanding of the haiku form quite well.
